Laburnum Boat Club is running a major youth expedition to India in August 2007.
The aims of the trip are three-fold
- firstly to make the first Youth descent of the Zanskar river (the 'Grand Canyon of India') by raft and kayak
- secondly to enhance the personal and social development for all involved
- and thirdly to be a motivational tool for the young people of Hackney
Participants will be required to organise the trip from the outset, working as a team to set up logistics and training and raising the £24,000 necessary for the trip to go ahead.
On return, will also produce a lecture tour that they will take to Youth Clubs and watersports centres to inspire and motivate other young people.
The trip itself will be physically and mentally challenging, but will also be a once in a life time opportunity for participants to expand their horizons both physically and metaphorically.
